Welcome to Boston Medical Center!

Picnic group2

The Boston Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency is a 4-year program based in an urban, academic, Level 1 trauma center.

We are the busiest trauma center in New England and the busiest emergency department, with more than 130,000 visits/year.  We have a dedicated pediatric ED and are also a tertiary referral center for a variety of illnesses, including cardiac disease, stroke, trauma, renal, and amyloid disease.  Finally, we offer accredited fellowship training EMS as well as an emergency ultrasound fellowship.

Boston Medical Center (BMC) functions as the safety-net hospital for the city of Boston and the surrounding communities, providing compassionate, state-of-the-art care to a diverse patient population, including many of the region's under-served.

One of the greatest strengths of our program is our talented group of residents, drawn from medical schools all over the US and Europe and with diverse outside interests and accomplishments spanning engineering, public health, international medicine, sports and the fine arts.

The philosophy of the BMC EM Residency is based on the triad of patient care, education, and research, in the service of developing leaders in emergency medicine. While patient care remains the department’s first priority, all three elements are balanced in our comprehensive training program.  As an independent academic department at Boston University School of Medicine, our EM program has become a respected leader within the BMC/BU community as well as nationwide.
